Residents of Lalpur in Natore have blocked the road and protested demanding justice for the murder of television mechanic Sohail Rana (37).
On Wednesday (March 13, 2024) from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, residents of the Ishwardi-Bagha regional highway blocked the road by placing dead bodies in the old Ishwardi Airport junction area and demanded the execution of the killers of Sohail's murder. Due to the blockade for almost two and a half hours, heavy traffic was created on the Ishwardi-Bagha regional highway. As a result, the passenger vehicles plying on this road have to suffer.
Meanwhile, Sohail's wife Nachima demanded justice for her husband's murderers along with her 15-day-old baby son Supta and 3-year-old daughter Sina, saying, "Where will I go with these stupid children of mine, who will take the responsibility of this stupid child."
Lalpur police reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitated crowd and the locals lifted the blockade from the road when they promised to arrest the killers of Sohel Rana's murder within the next 24 hours.
It is to be noted that the police recovered the body of television mechanic Sohel Rana from a corn field in the old Ishwardi Airport Mor area of the upazila yesterday morning. Sohail Rana is the son of deceased Maqbool Mistry of the same area.
Shamim Hossain, the brother of deceased Sohail Rana, said that every day Sohail returned home at night, but after seeing his shop open at 12 o'clock last night, the shopkeepers of Yarfort Square closed the shop at 12:30 a.m. and returned home without finding Sohail Rana. In the morning news came through Tushar that Sohail's body was lying in a cornfield at Yarfort Junction.
Officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, OC Nashim Ahmed said yesterday, Sohail Rana's wife Nachima filed a murder case against unknown persons. After hearing the news of the protest by blocking the road in the area of Old Ishwardi Airport intersection this afternoon, the Lalpur Thana Police reached the spot and promised to bring the accused under the law within the next 24 hours. At present the environment in the area is calm.
